nitroBEAT is the next phase of Nitro Music Theatre, which itself evolved from The Black Theatre Co-op established in 1979. Respected for powerful theatre and performance exploring the contemporary black British experience for over 36 years, the company's journey tells an important story about Britain's changing social and artistic landscapes.

Goldsmith's University is home to an important collection of theatre and performance archives, including 'Future Histories: Black Theatre and Carnival Archive (1970s-2000)', which houses the Black Theatre Co-op and Nitro archives. This online archive offers an opportunity to research nitroBEAT's legacy, presenting a selection of projects from across the last 36 years.

The archive includes material from the motiroti, Black Theatre Forum and Nitro/Black Theatre Co-op, all available for access at Goldsmiths University, and the Talawa Theatre archive, currently housed at V&A Blythe House. (click on archives; Nitro; production; full catalogue for details).
